Digestive events, such as hiccups or a stomach ache, are part of the normal functions of the digestive system. These inconveniences are not signs of problems in the digestive tract.
What triggers digestive events?
Digestive events are often related to an unbalanced diet, for example, too much fat, too much spicy food or not enough dietary fibre. Lifestyle can also play a role, for example, if we eat irregular meals or eat too quickly, or if we are stressed. Food poisoning and food intolerances may sometimes cause digestive events. Finally, certain types of medication, such as anti-inflammatories, may cause heartburn.
