Mackintosh introduced the Carnival assortment of sweets in 1925. The different flavours were individually wrapped: malt (blue wrapper), Harrogate (yellow), mint (green), egg and cream (orange), coconut (pink), toffee (red). After Mackintosh marketed Quality Street in 1936, Miss Sweetly and Major Quality became the new celebrity couple in the world of confectionery, dethroning Pagliaccio and Columbine from the Commedia dell’arte featured on this lid.
