That Sugar film
Damon Gameau, Universum Film, Australia, US, 2014
Having encountered the debate on excessive sugar consumption, the director Damon Gameau decided to conduct his own experiment. For two months, he followed a high-sugar diet (40 teaspoons a day), eating only low-fat, purportedly healthy products (cereal bars and fruit juices for example). During this period, he noticed that he was more prone to mood swings and had a shorter attention span. He also rapidly gained weight and his body fat increased. In the selected extracts, Damon Gameau describes the high levels of sugar present in some drinks in Australia and the US. He also meets consumers of considerable amounts of sugar in Amata, an aboriginal village in Australia where obesity is a problem, and Larry in Kentucky (US), a young adult who suffers from severe tooth decay.
