What are digestive glands?
Digestive glands are organs that produce chemical substances which digest food. For example, salivary glands produce saliva, which is transported to the mouth via ducts.



The pancreas, liver and gall bladder are also digestive glands. They are connected to the digestive tract by ducts and join up with the first part of the small intestine, the duodenum. The ducts also have particular names. The pancreatic duct is called the Wirsung duct and the hepatic duct links the liver to the duodenum.

What are integrated digestive glands?
These glands are directly integrated into the wall of the digestive tract. Gastric glands, for example, are integrated into the stomach wall. Similarly, intestinal glands are integrated into the wall of the intestine.
