What are stools?
The large intestine, or colon, compresses waste and absorbs water. The residue is called stools.
The body cannot digest or absorb dietary fibre. However, fibre makes the passage of stools easier and prevents constipation.
Bacteria in the large intestines ferment most of the dietary fibre, and this helps keep the intestines healthy.
How does the body evacuate stools?
Stools make their way to the anus where they are expelled from the body. It takes food 15 to 30 hours to make this long journey through the digestive tract
