Protestant paten or chalice
Developed in the 16th century, the Protestant liturgy is based on a rewritten Latin Mass, while maintaining the latter’s structure. Although the objects used in Protestant (Lutheran or Reformed) worship are not consecrated, they are reserved solely for liturgy. Given that worship is to be rendered beautiful through prayer and not through ornamentation, a certain degree of mistrust towards excessively rich, opulent or formal furnishings can be observed.
