Octopus trap
Octopus may be caught passively or actively. The passive technique, widely used in the Mediterranean, consists of laying such traps on the seabed for several days. Octopuses enter it to take shelter and, when the pots are brought to the surface, the octopuses generally do not try to escape. This type of trap relies on the animal’s behaviour as, unlike fish traps, it does not have a funnel-shaped device to physically prevent the prey from escaping.
