Academy: Food and nutrients
A varied and balanced diet is essential to staying in good health.
In order to understand the need for a varied, balanced diet, it is essential to comprehend the role nutrients play in the building, function, maintenance and protection of the organism. All our energy and nutritional requirements must be covered. Recommendations may differ from one country to another, depending on the availability of food, and cultural or religious practices. The various food pyramids illustrate these recommendations to help us compose our meals.
